Preheat the oven (non fan) to 160 degrees and grease a 24cm cake tin.
For the torte - add the butter and sugar into a mixing bowl and beat with an electric whisk until light and fluffy. Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk, add half of the egg mixture slowly a drizzle at a time then add the flour and whisk until they are combined. Then add the other half of the egg mix and beat until fluffy. Melt the chocolate into a velvety texture then fold in and combine until smooth. Pour the mixture into the cake tin and place the into a pre warmed water bath. Bake for 35 minutes approx / until the cake has set. Remove the torte from the oven and leave to cool for 10 mins then turn out onto a cooling rack.
For the topping- once the cake has cooled to just warm ...using a flat edged knife spread the mascarpone over the entire surface of the cake and dust with cocoa powder or sea salt chocolate shavings.
Now your cake is ready ...........indulge!
